The Swiss dance company inFlux’ new production, “time - sliced in time“, examines the concept and dimensions of time. Our lives consist of units of time from the very first to the very last breath we take: intervals, successions, rhythms, chain reactions and repetitions. Is it time to take a moment to examine our relationship with these? How long is an hour? How long does five minutes truly last – in the morning, in the evening, at work, while eating, in the waiting room, in movement and in stillness, with or without wearing a watch? Does time fly or does it creep slowly by like the longest night of the year? To whom do we give our time? To whom do we owe time? Why do we waste time? How does one waste time? What do we save time for? Where does time go? Why are we constantly striving to increase our pace and are proud to be able to constantly multi-task? To strengthen our individualism? To facilitate a healthy economy and a heart attack?
“Time - sliced in time“ examines our society’s race against the clock. Three women share various segments of their everyday lives with the audience. As they are propelled into a relentless cycle of frenzied actions and reactions, how do they react? The scenes accelerate in speed and repetition to the point of absurdity. Can the dancers escape this vicious circle? The performers ultimately struggle to find or create a moment when time stands still.
Does inFlux offer itself to the audience for one hour’s time and invite them to experience these dancers at work or, does the audience instead offer inFlux their time? This is the question. This is our time, our hour, that we can spend the way we wish…what do we choose to do with our precious time?
